CTES bags contest tilts, awards

Camp Tinio Elementary School (CTES) pupils proved the school’s supremacy as they brought home various contest awards in the first two quarters this school year, beating 22 schools in District IV and other schools in the Division of Cabanatuan.

“Our pupils are no doubt gifted in various intellectual dimensions. However, their intelligence are leveled up with the aid of their teacher-coaches who also deserved due commendation. With their joint efforts, it only proves that our school is excellent,” Mrs. Marcelina Arenas, CTES principal commented.


STEP champ

Among the triumphant pupils is Jinky Diane Domingo who qualified in the regional Student Technology and Entrepreneur of the Philippines (STEP) after producing the best tie and die craft in the district and division level held in September, sweeping all participating schools in Cabanatuan.

Domingo will demonstrate his skill as she represents Cabanatuan City Division in the regional level to be held in Baler, Aurora in November.


Topping Press Con

With five gold medals, four silver medals, and three bronze medals, The Beacon staffers retained its possession as District IV Press Conference champion held last September 10.

The awarded The Beacon staffers are Jake Christian Decena, 1st place both in News and Sports Writing English; Kimberly Sablan, 2nd place in News Writing Filipino; Lovelyn Rivera, 1st place in Feature Writing Filipino and 2nd place in Editorial Writing Filipino; Alpha Shayne Aguba, 4th place both in Editorial Writing and Copyreading and Headline Writing Filipino; Kingsly Madrid, 2nd place in Sports Writing English; Ira Nicole Manuel, 2nd place in Copyreading and Headline Writing English and Editorial Writing Filipino; Pamela Navarro, 1st place in Sports Writing Filipino; Joana Carla Estuesta, 1st place in Editorial Writing English; Mary Pauline Peralta, 3rd place in Photojournalism English; Chaira Antipolo, 3rd place in Photojournalism Filipino; and Gerald Remaneses 3rd place in Editorial Cartooning Filipino.

“I was very pressured because The Beacon is consistent champion in the district and I was afraid I might not level what The Beacon former adviser did. Gladly, we made it,” said Mr. Allan David Valdez, The Beacon’s new adviser.

The Beacon beat 16 schools in the district four.


Science Wizards

Science wizards like Ira Nicole Manuel of VI SPED who topped the Science Quiz Bee, perfecting the 50-item test during the District Science Fare last September brought another pride to CTES.

With her who lauded winners are Gerald Rameneses (see related news on page) who won 1st place in poster-making contest; Mary Pauline Peralta, Chaira Franchesca Antipolo and Kingsly Madrid for their Comparative Study on the Use of Citrofortunella Microcarpa (Calamansi) Peelings as Delicious Preserved.

Pupils, parents honor CTES teachers

Roses. Letters. Greetings.

These surprised Camp Tinio Elementary School (CTES) teachers as pupils and parents of CTES give tribute to them during the feast of World Teachers’ Day last October 5.

Headed by the Supreme Student Government (SSG) and Parents, Teachers Association (PTA), CTES teachers were honored trough greetings and giving of letters and roses to them as they [SSG, PTA] sing the song “Thanks To You” that made the teachers teary-eyed.

Grazelle Magno of VI-SPED made the teachers laugh when she delivered a comedic poem about the teachers’ sacrifices.

Teacher-coaches who triumphantly competed and won in this school year’s contests were also recognized. Among them are Mr. Allan David Valdez, Ms. Mary Grace Valiente, Mrs. Josefina Balagtas, Mrs. Edna Empania and Mr. Jose Barcelo.

The surprise was also spearheaded by the principal Mrs. Marcelina Arenas who encouraged and inspired the teachers to be the pupils’ hero.

DWJJ airs CTES teachers

To talk about the school’s reoffering of Special Education (SPED) for the gifted, 10 Camp Tinio Elementary School (CTES) teachers served as guests at DWJJ as it aired the DepEd Hour, the nightly radio program which deals with the DepEd Cabanatuan City Division’s educational programs and issues.

Interviewed by city councilor Ariel Severino, substitute host of division superintendent Malcolm Garma and Tina Wycoco, CTES teachers, headed by their principal Marcelina Arenas, explained the screening procedures (see related news on page ) held to come up with the list of students who will take the SPED curriculum.

During the talk, Severino asked if palakasan system tainted the said screening and the teachers answered no because even the sons and daughters of their co-teachers who failed in the screening were not admitted in the pool of SPED pupils.

Among the teachers who talked more about the reoffering as well as the school’s improvement are Mrs. Maribet Domingo, Mrs. Sabelina Pacinos, Mrs. Cipriana Arcia, Mrs. Jocelyn Bumanlag Mr. Allan David Valdez, Mrs. Josefina Balagtas, Mrs. Edna Empania, and Ms. Jocelyn dela Cruz; all, if not SPED advisers, are teaching SPED classes.

NGOs, GOs feed 236 undernourished pupils

Two hundred thirty-six undernourished Camp Tinio Elementary School pupils are being fed by sponsoring government and non-government organizations supporting the school’s supplementary feeding program which started in July in observance with the Nutrition Month celebration.

Among these organizations that helped in the conduct of the program are Catholic Women’s League, Philippine Guardians Brotherhood Inc., Apostulada ng Panginoon, Couples for Christ, Camp Tinio barangay officials, and other families and store owners in Camp Tinio.

As of press time, the feeding program is still on and aimed to nourish CTES pupils, serving them nutrition-packed food until the end of October.

‘Malunggay’ savors Nutri’ Cookfest

Known for its nutritional benefits, malunggay leaves took the limelight as it delighted every dish in the Nutrition Cookfest.

In line with the fête of Nutrition Month, malunggay, was used as a common ingredient among the dishes cooked by Grade V and VI pupils who take Home Economics (HE).

“We want to encourage the pupils and the parents who witnessed the fest to use malunggay in their dishes because it is no doubt a nutritious food. Also, with this activity, the pupils were able to show that malunggay can be blended with other Filipino viands,” said Mrs. Susana Duay, HE teacher and head of the fest.

The best cooked dishes were pakbet, tinolang manok, kare-kare, sinigang na bangus, and chopsuey ; all were mixed with malunggay leaves and cooked by Grade VI-SPED.

Remaneses is school’s lone victor

Gerald Remanes, a pupil from Grade V-SPED is the sole awardee among the delegates of Camp Tinio Elementary School in the Division Science Fare held last October 1-2.

After his victorious battle in the district level for poster-making, Remaneses brought home a silver medal along with two other winners in the division level.

Remaneses will be one of the representatives of the division in the Regional Science Fare.

Entry for the investigatory project and quiz bee who won in the district level flanked out as they were beaten by private schools in Cabanatuan.

Pupils find more reasons to smile

Two hundred thirteen Grade I pupils of Camp Tinio Elementary School (CTES) will no longer frown and be shy of their decayed teeth for they will soon develop stronger and whiter teeth as they use their toothbrushes and toothpastes distributed on them last August, sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive Philippines, Inc. (CPPI).

The said distribution is part of the Bright Smiles, Bright Futures (BSBF) program, a joint project of the Department of Education (DepED) and CPPI which now on its two years.

Last year, Grade I pupils of CTES were handed some of the 2.648 million oral care materials.

This year, 2.873 million of toothbrushes and toothpastes were distributed and CTES pupils were one of the recipients.

In line with the BSBF program, oral health educational materials were distributed to schools that will encourage Grade I teachers to integrate teaching of oral health in their English subject.

Grade I CTES teachers are now integrating oral health in their English subject in observance with October’s Oral Health Awareness Week and will continue until February for the National Dental Health Month.
